ANNFacts the Origin

I guess I need to start with a statement of purpose? Anime News Network has a podcast (ANNCast), which sometimes lets slip bits of industry information that we as fans don’t otherwise hear – sales numbers, business processes, sometimes even gossip. My goal is to try to collect these tidbits, summarize them, and provide some kind of citation for each one. I expect it to start kind of rough…

In the 2014 June 27 AnimeSols podcast:

  • Some streaming episodes had only about 10 views – and this was for successfully funded shows! This compares with hundreds of views for the first 2-3 episodes of those same shows. (~24 minutes in)
  • Successful shows were those that had complete fansubs releases (~24-25 minutes in)
  • Sam Pinansky believe site is being used for existing fans of old series (from viewing them fansubbed) to try to support series they’ve already seen, rather than for discovering new things to watch (~26 minutes in)
  • $120K crowdfunded, about 4K registered users (about 1K of which have actually pledged to something) (~42 minutes in)
  • Blu-ray remastering from film is about $2-3K/episode (~47 minutes in)
  • Future Boy Conan isn’t available for license (no timecode recorded…)
